Alabama does not have a statewide carbon monoxide detector law. However, individual municipalities may have their own requirements — homeowners and renters should check with local building or fire officials. Even without a legal mandate, the CDC and NFPA strongly recommend that every home with fuel-burning appliances or an attached garage have at least one CO detector installed near sleeping areas. Voluntary installation is the single most effective step any resident can take to prevent CO poisoning.
Landlord Requirements in Alabama
